Our timber decking comes in a variety of hardwoods and softwoods that are durable and resistant to insect damage. Without a doubt, our wood decking is ideal for covering up old concrete patios and serving as an alternative to paving. Our experts will construct it at the same level as your existing floors. We have the ability to make the transition from indoors to outdoors as smooth as possible.

What are the common types of deck Flooring?

Not all decking materials are appropriate for every home, but a decking specialist can provide you with personalised advice. Here are some key distinctions between common timber decking.

    Hardwood timber decking

Hardwoods are an excellent choice for Australian decks because they are extremely durable, highly resilient, and can look, feel, and even smell fantastic. Popular hardwoods include Jarrah, Spotted Gum, and Merbau, Australia’s most popular timber decking.

Hardwoods can add a stylish touch to any outdoor space. Every timber is unique, but the warm red-brown tones of Merbau and the rich brown Jarrah are hard to beat. The best part is that with proper care and maintenance, their good looks can last for many years. In the harsh Australian climate, hardwood decks can weather and even rot if not regularly maintained. So, to keep your deck looking good, apply a timber finish or oil to it once a year. Hardwood decks are less expensive than composite decking but more expensive than treated pine decks.

    Softwood Timber Decking

A softwood timber deck is cheaper than a hardwood deck. This is not to say that softwood is necessarily inferior. Yes, treated pine – the softwood most commonly used for timber decking due to its durability.

There are a variety of coatings available that will help to protect your timber deck while also making it look great. Of course, a softwood timber deck can be painted as well.

You can then choose from a wide range of colours to match your home aesthetics and surroundings.

    Bushfire-safe decking

You can still enjoy the benefits of a deck surrounded by towering eucalypts; you just need to be aware of the risks and any additional design, specification, and construction parameters that may be required, such as using fire-resistant decking materials.

The “rules” are simple once you know your BAL. If you have a BAL low rating, you can proceed normally with no special requirements. If your property has a BAL rating of 12.5-40, you must use bushfire-resistant or non-combustible materials and enclose the space beneath the deck to protect against ember attacks.

If your property has a BAL Flame Zone rating, you must use noncombustible materials and enclose the space beneath the deck. The decking cannot have any gaps. The deck should be steel-framed and have no exposed timbers. The subfloor and decking boards should be made of dense woods.

    Composite wood decking

Composite decking, which is made from a combination of wood fibers and recycled plastic, is a simple and environmentally-friendly alternative to timber. Popular brands such as Ekodeck and Modwood provide highly weather-resistant products that are specifically designed for Australian backyards.

Composite decking is available in a variety of timber finishes to complement your outdoor space, including Jarrah, Silver Gum, Highland Oak, and others.

Composite decking is far more durable than wood decking and is less likely to fade, warp, rot, or splinter. It also requires very little upkeep. There’s no need to oil or stain it; simply clean it with a composite deck cleaner.
